Here's the story:

DANCING FOR DREAMS
LOUWNA ERASMUS

Reach for a Dream is a nonprofit organization that encourages children to use their dreams to fight life-threatening illnesses. These people will go to any length to make the dreams of children between the ages of 3 and 18 come true. But while dreams are free, granting them comes at a cost. Dancing for Dreams is a social event and fundraiser that involve local celebrities who each receive a dance instructor and two months' training before they have to strut their stuff in front of a live audience and a panel of judges.

One of the strict prerequisites for this competition is that celebs should not have previous formal ballroom dancing experience and this makes it all the more interesting. This year we will be entertained by Mrs. Bloemfontein – Lianda Hurter, Miss. Free State and Face of Krant – Marinique Viljoen, Miss Deaf South Africa – Vicki Fourie, Miss UFS Rag/Miss Bloemshow Celeste van Drunick, Miss Bloem Rose - Lieschen Buitendag, Miss Goldfields - Emma Sekhoto, Round Table 25 – Hanno Bekker, Absa – Regional Head Secure Lending – Zane Koeberg and former SRC President – Moses Masitha.

The competition exceeded all expectations in previous years and Mimosa Mall performances drew crowds larger than 500 people per show. The tickets for the gala evening were sold out two weeks prior to the event. Teresa Troskie and Ella Kotze were the respective winners in 2008 and 2009.

The first round kicks off with a spring breakfast on 3 September 2010 while the second and third rounds take place on 11 and 18 September. In each of these rounds, the participants will have to perform three dances that are a Ballroom dance, a Latin dance and an Exhibition Showdance. The winners will be announced on 22 September 2010 at the Gala dinner.

This elegant competition promises great entertainment and fun for everyone. To support Reach for a Dream, please contact Nadia Goodes and book your place at the Gala dinner (072 199 0558).
