Devo Zine: Feedback

I sent my writer's submission and ideas to Devo Zine (http://www.devozine.org/) a few weeks ago, and they replied. Their feedback is very positive! Here's it:

Thank you so much for your interest in writing for devozine and for the numerous ideas you have suggested.

I saw your Tweet about submitting your query to us and hoping to hear something -- so I don’t want to keep you waiting. Yes, we want you to write for us! After reading the articles and interviews for which you provided links, my initial thought is that I would love for you simply to tell your story -- about being deaf, being shot, struggling with depression, feeling left out at times, but also about entering the Miss Deaf pageants, raising awareness, being a role model and an inspirational speaker, learning to allow God to work through you to encourage others — perhaps for the “Why Me?” theme coming up in the March/April 2012 issue. I think your story intersects with that theme in many ways, and yet you move beyond asking “Why me?” and use your life to touch others.

Of course, I will review the article suggestions you sent as well to see which themes are open and which ideas work for us — perhaps in an earlier issue. I just didn’t want to leave you wondering whether we were interested.

I am also intrigued by your idea of giving you a column — and I really like the down-to-earth ideas you offer. I think those are the very things our readers would ask questions about if they could hang out with you for a few days, so it feels quite real and relevant. In our current print publication, we don’t have a lot of room to add a column, but we do have quite a few celebrities and youth workers who blog for us on our youth site (www.devozine.org) and especially on our youth worker site (www.devoted2youth.org — which we also link to from the youth site). So that may be an option. Let me know what you think about writing your “column” as a blog, and I will talk with my staff about whether that is a possibility. It could be another way to connect our readers with you and your story before the pageant in July and definitely before 2012.

Thanks again for offering to partner with us in encouraging the spiritual lives of young people. I look forward to what lies ahead!

Hyper, hyper excited!!
