I received the following invitation from a lady after she heard about my story in the Cleo magazine:
'Our club is busy organising a fundraising event for St.Vincent School for the Deaf in Rosebank. They are in desperate need for an ABR (Auditory Brainstem Response) machine to accurately test the level of deafness of their pupils and the local community. Their current machine is old and out-dated and the gouverment will not supply them. Rotary is a non-profit organisation who serves the Community less fortunate than ourselves. We ( a little club consists of 12 middle aged ladies) decided to help them to achieve their dream. This function happens on the 7th May Saturday , consists of an elegant 3 course lunch at Southern Sun Grayston for 300 ladies. There will be fashion show from Jo Borkett and Olivelli Bridal Wear, entertainment by our MC Fiona Ramsay , exciting raffles and spot prizes. The proceeds will go towards the purchase of this machine which costs around R 165'000.- Our club would like to invite you to come to our event as special guest. I am sorry that this is such late notice as we have not known about Miss Deaf SA before. We would be delighted if any of your friends and family would like to join us on this wonderful day. We still have some tickets left, R 400.- per person.'
It will be a wonderful honour for me, however, they have responded to my reply, saying they wonl't be able to accomdate me whatsover. I won't be going.
